Jenzabar’s Internet Campus Solution Wins IMS Global Learning Consortium
2008 Learning Impact Awards
Jenzabar’s Internet Campus Solution (JICS) has been awarded the IMS Global Learning Consortium 2008 Learning Impact Award for an entry titled “JICS Enhances Learning at Peirce College,” which received the bronze award and a best in category award as Best Enterprise Learning Administrative Platform.
The IMS Global Learning Consortium awarded 12 companies a Learning Impact Award (LIA) based on their use of technology to support and enhance learning. Jenzabar and Peirce College were one of only four U.S. award recipients. The LIA awards are unique since they recognize the use of technology in context. Jenzabar and Peirce College demonstrated that JICS enhances learning at Peirce College in five key areas: JICS provides students greater access to learning tools; extends online services; serves as an effective community-building tool; empowers students with security and ease-of-use; and can contribute to significant cost savings.
The Learning Impact program was initiated by the IMS Global Learning Consortium for the purpose of recognizing outstanding applications of technology that address the most significant challenges facing the global education and learning industries.
“The implementation of JICS at Peirce College has had a tremendous learning impact on the institution as a whole,” says Christopher Duffy, Chief Information Officer at Peirce College. “With JICS we have extended our reach beyond the confines of the Philadelphia community, we have provided our students with outstanding online services, and have been able to bring the college campus directly to the student laptop, making Peirce College an affordable option for many students.”
Peirce College set an institutional goal to implement a 24x7x365 Web portal to increase accessibility and services to students, faculty, staff, and other key stakeholders. To achieve that goal, the College uses JICS to provide all students, regardless of location or time of day, with access to most services that are offered during the business day. Among other efficiencies realized by the implementation of JICS, Peirce students now have single sign-on credentials to access physical and wireless networks as well as the Web portal, with seamless pass-through authentication to other online services at the College, including learning management systems, tutoring, and the library.
“We are honored and proud that our portal has earned these IMS Global Learning Consortium Learning Impact Awards, particularly in light of the international nature of this competition. This is a tremendous achievement demonstrating the power that JICS offers to institutions of higher education as they strive to connect with their students in a meaningful way,” said Robert A. Maginn, Jr., Jenzabar Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Our portal has enhanced learning significantly at Peirce College and clearly has the ability to impact education on a profound level.”
The 2008 Learning Impact Award represents the second major award won by JICS within two years; the Jenzabar portal was honored with a CODiE Award as Best Postsecondary Education Portal by the Software Information Industry Association (SIIA) in 2006.
