Getting It Together...the Right Way
CAMBRIDGE, MAJune 12, 2001Over the past
several years, Roxbury Community College had envisioned a time when
an integrated student and administrative database would provide
comprehensive information so its staff could serve students better.
"We previously had separate computer systems," Bill Fenstemacher,
Roxbury's Special Assistant to the President, states. "Consequently,
we were unable to transfer data between Admissions, Registration,
Financial Aid, and the Business Office for student billing. Because
of that, the Advising Offices had incomplete information about students
for advising purposes. Also, our current software required a great
deal of staff time to function properly."
When you consider that Roxbury has 3,200 students,
you can see the size of the dilemma it was facing. So, the College
decided to cut the problem down to size.
During the fall, the directors and key staff of those
previously mentioned offices evaluated 15 different software vendors
and, from that number, selected two to make presentations to the
school. Based on overall content and operational capabilities, in
January, Roxbury selected the Elite software package offered by
Jenzabar, a leading provider of Internet enterprise software, e-learning
solutions, and services to higher education. Roxbury opted for the
complete Jenzabar Elite Student System (admissions, registration,
financial aid, advising), the Financial Management System (all business
functions, payroll, HR, and development), and the web interface.
And things began to come together quickly.
"Our partnership with Jenzabar will enable RCC to
improve our services to students, by enhancing the information available
for academic advising, course registration, financial assistance,
personal counseling, and institutional financial management," Dr.
Grace C. Brown, Roxbury's President notes. "Most importantly, this
software supports our shared vision of providing seamless services
to our students."
Acting as Roxbury's Project Manager for the software
implementation, Bill Fenstemacher feels that the acquisition of
the Jenzabar Elite software came at exactly the right time. "RCC
is growing," Fenstemacher remarks. "It has had a greater than a
10% enrollment increase during each of the last two semesters, and
our objective is to grow significantly in the next two years. We're
getting things right, and Jenzabar will enable us to do even better.
The Jenzabar software will provide RCC, for the first time, the
information needed for strategic planning. It will support our efforts
for continuous improvement in student services and our internal
evaluation of managerial performance."
Now that is getting it together...the right way.
