Jenzabar Delivers Next Generation Web Portal to Institutions of
Higher Education

Solution Includes Pivotal Advances in Security, User Interface and Interconnectivity

Cambridge, MA and San Diego, CA — June 16, 2005 Jenzabar, Inc., the pioneer of Total Campus Management (TCM) for higher education, today announced the release of the latest version of its Jenzabar Internet Campus Solution Web portal, JICS 6.0. This announcement kicks off Jenzabar’s celebration of its fourth annual customer meeting, its largest to date, hosting over 1000 attendees. This next generation Web portal was designed with input from staff, faculty and student users of Jenzabar portals deployed in numerous Institutions of Higher Education. JICS includes key features to deliver heightened security, customization and tight integration with administrative systems. The JICS 6.0 web portal fulfills the objectives that the higher education community has been seeking: improving Web portal functionality, addressing the shortcomings of most currently available solutions while delivering the value associated with a single point-of-entry, role-specific content, and connectivity to key areas within the institution.

The JICS product release is one of many exciting developments taking place at Jenzabar’s 2005 Annual Meeting. This four-day event includes demonstrations of JICS and other new products as well as highlighting significant new enhancements to Jenzabar’s CX and EX ERP systems.

The JICS portal solves the challenges encountered by many institutions where functional departments each have their own Web sites, and where institutions have found themselves in the position of managing multiple connections to their constituencies. Often enterprise resource planning (ERP) and learning management systems (LMS) implementations have resulted in the deployment of dissimilar disconnected portals. Previously, candidates, students, faculty, staff, alumni and other stakeholders had to connect to disparate sites, separately, to get the information they need to pay bills, register for courses, check health benefits, oversee programs, learn about new developments, and interact with each other. JICS streamlines access to vital information relevant to individual constituents while reducing the management burden in administering and maintaining different, often dissimilar, sites.

"I am excited about the possibilities that the Jenzabar portal will bring to PLNU," said Ken Evilsizor, Director of Information Technology at Point Loma Nazarene University. "We already had student and faculty focused web sites that provided access to personal data, but the portal will envelope these capabilities and extend our community reach to alumni and prospective students through a single consistent interface. It is expected to encourage an ever-growing relationship with our students beyond graduation. Regarding online communities, the portal has the potential to build real campus and alumni communities through calendars, forums and chat capability that would not have been considered feasible in the past."

JICS provides constituents inside and outside the institution with the information they need, when they need it. It unifies the user interface and point-of-entry for institution-wide applications and content, along with customizable views of department-specific group-specific, and personalized information based on each user’s defined role(s). Among the many benefits delivered to the institution, JICS 6.0:

  • Facilitates a continuous flow of mission-critical information between departments;
  • Fosters a sense of community across the institution with group, bulletin board and chat-related functionality;
  • Supports the institution’s efforts to increase student retention; facilitating many variations of Learning Communities as well as social communities;
  • Allows staff to spend less time acquiring data, as well as reducing duplication and avoiding the possibility of inconsistencies; and
  • Delivers timely information to drive strategic and tactical decisions.
JICS provides a seamless interface to all facets of student life from admission through graduation, tightly integrating academic requirements, resources, schedules and achievements for every constituent

“The built-in interfaces to our existing ERP system make the Jenzabar portal an easy deployment choice,” continued Evilsizor. “The functionality and role based permissions provide an ideal environment for delegating responsibilities for content to the responsible offices and even alumni responsible for different groups that will be offered through the portal. It also provides us a platform for future development of functionality that we have desired but recognized should be deployed through a portal, role-based environment.”

Built on the Microsoft® .NET platform, in accordance with industry-standard protocols, Jenzabar Internet Campus Solution takes the higher education institution’s portal to a new level through interconnected Web services. Significantly, every user has the experience of accessing all portal-based applications from within an intuitive, uniform user interface. Additionally, JICS 6.0 provides:
  • Secure, safe-guarded role-based access to institution-wide, mission-critical applications and data , with an unlimited number of roles;
  • Out-of-the-box integration with Jenzabar ERP systems, via constituent relationship modules (CRMs), optimized for speed and security;
  • Single sign-on to all applications presented within the portal, including non-Jenzabar applications; and
  • Institutions can build custom portlets using Visual Studio, accommodating development
    at all skill levels from HTML to VB to C#.
“JICS harnesses the power of the portal to help achieve institutional goals, resulting in a heightened degree of constituent satisfaction, from the applicant to the president,” said Robert A. Maginn, Chairman and CEO of Jenzabar, Inc. “Jenzabar Internet Campus Solution is a cornerstone of our Total Campus Management approach. Our integrated system and single database structure provide the heart and brain, and our portal solution with constituent relationship modules provide the arms and legs to propel our client institutions toward a prosperous future.”
