The National Association of CX Users (NACU) rewarded three Jenzabar CX users for their ingenuity during Jenzabar’s Annual Meeting (JAM), held June 14 – 17 in San Diego, CA. Awards were presented to the winners of NACU’s 2005 JAM Software Contest: William Goins of Georgetown College, Michael Marks of St. Edwards University, and Eric Urff of Daytona Beach Community College.
Held since 2003 in conjunction with the annual user group conference, the NACU Software Contest presented awards in three software categories: Financial (including Accounting, HR, and Institutional Advancement); Student (including Admissions, Registrar, and Financial Aid); and Utilities (System Utilities, Cognos Tools). Entries were judged on how useful they are to the Jenzabar CX user base and on how well they were written.
Mr. Goins submitted the winning entry in the Financial Category, titled “Display Payroll Information on Web.” He has created scripts that can be added to existing student and faculty Web menus to allow them to display payroll information, or display an individual check/direct deposit for that pay period.
Mr. Marks won the Student Category with his entry titled “Progress Reporting Surveys.” He has devised a system for creating progress reporting surveys to be administered on a regular or ad-hoc basis by the Advising office. The surveys are completed online, and may be viewed online by students, faculty or advisors.
And Mr. Urff won the Utilities Category with his entry titled “GL Permissions Function for Cognos Catalogs.” His process enables users to set up Cognos catalogs for use with Impromptu reporting tools to adhere to the General Ledger permissions (GLPERMS) in the CX system, ensuring that only authorized users can access General Ledger records.

Each customer received a $500 cash award and a recognition plaque for his winning idea. In addition, every Jenzabar CX user who entered the contest received a USB flash drive.
NACU is a non-profit organization made up of member institutions who use the Jenzabar CX product line. The association’s six-member Steering Committee serves as a liaison between Jenzabar CX users and Jenzabar, and plays an important role in planning and coordinating the Jenzabar CX sessions offered at Jenzabar’s Annual Meeting.
